 Las texturas urbanas y rurales que conforman la España contemporánea forman la base para una narración fragmentada, para una mirada crítica y un nuevo lenguaje documental en el que la fotografía juega un papel determinante. Vida cotidiana, marcha nocturna, identidades, coches tuneados, bodas en provincias, despedidas de soltera, emigración e inmigración, la cultura del ladrillo. Todo ello constituye un material crudo para la nueva generación de fotógrafos documentales que han surgido en España en la última década, escorados hacia la antropología social. Moderada por el comisario de exposiciones, Moritz Neumüller, la mesa reúne al fotógrafo español Iñaki Domingo y a los fotógrafos irlandeses Mark Curran y Mike O’Toole para entablar un diálogo y buscar paralelismos entre ambos países, sus tópicos y la manera de relacionarse con ellos. En los tiempos de crisis actuales – tanto económicos como psicológicos - la mirada directa a los tópicos del día a día de nuestras sociales a través de la fotografía, supone una bocanada de aire fresco y una aproximación honesta a la realidad cotidiana. "Nuevas fronteras, nuevos territorios" está organizada conjuntamente por el Instituto Cervantes Dublín y PhotoIreland y se encuadra en el marco de la exposición "Aquí y Ahora": Fotografía Documental de la España Contemporánea. |
The urban and rural textures which make up today’s Spain form the basis for a fragmented narration, for critical viewpoints, and for a new documentary-based vocabulary, in which photography plays an essential role. Daily life, nightlife, identities, souped-up cars, provincial weddings, hen parties, immigration and emigration, the construction boom. Each of these subjects serves as raw material for the new generation of documentary photographers in Spain within the last decade, who lean towards the documentary angle of the practice, and the social anthropology.
Moderated by the curator of exhibitions, Moritz Neumüller, this round table discussion gathers together Spanish photographer Iñaki Domingo along with Irish photographers Mark Curran and Mike O’Toole in dialogue to discuss the parallels between both countries, their relevant issues, and the stance taken towards these issues. In these times of crises, both economic and psychological, a direct look at the day-to-day issues affecting our social reality, comes as a breath of fresh air and brings us one step closer to an honest look at our day-to-day existence. “New Frontiers, New Territories” has been organised by Instituto Cervantes in conjunction with PhotoIreland, within the framework of the exhibition “Here and Now”: Documentary Photography in Contemporary Spain.

Here and Now. Documentary Photography in Contemporary Spain
 "Aquí y Ahora" es una muestra de fotografía organizada conjuntamente por el Instituto Cervantes y la Agencia Española Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID). Esta exposición está formada por trece aproximaciones personales a los tópicos, antiguos y nuevos, que definen la España contemporánea: inmigración, toros, turismo, agua, territorio, gente, vivienda, bodas, memoria familiar, terrorismo, motos, religión y bares. Este proyecto es una iniciativa de Nophoto, colectivo de fotografía contemporánea nacido en 2005 con el objetivo de hacer viables proyectos individuales y colectivos no convencionales. Los trabajos de Nophoto ofrecen una experimentada mirada sobre lo cotidiano que siempre conduce a lo extraordinario. Fotógrafos que han preferido no ser turistas, ni intrépidos reporteros, ni irónicos; no buscaron la noticia, tampoco la verdad. Si acaso, la honestidad. Trece proyectos que matan los tópicos acercándose a ellos y que saquean los arquetipos usando algo tan sencillo como la primera persona.
Aquí y Ahora (Here and Now) is a photography exhibition jointly organised by the Instituto Cervantes and the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo AECID (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development). This exhibition comprises thirteen personal representations of themes, both old and new, that define contemporary Spain: immigration, bulls, tourism, water, land, people, housing, marriage, family memory, terrorism, motorbikes, religion and bars. This project is an initiative of Nophoto, a contemporary, non-conventional, photographers' collective. The works of Nophoto offer an experimental insight into everyday life that always leads to the extraordinary.Photographers who have preferred not to be tourists, or intrepid reporters, who are not seeking a newsworthy event or even truth. At most, they search for honesty. Thirteen projects that kill off the clichés surrounding them and take archetypes by storm using something as simple as the first person.

 ¡Tambores locos en las calles de Dún Laoghaire!
La Banda del Surdo presenta su propuesta artística Percussionante!, un espectáculo callejero lleno de percusión y ritmo. Una numerosa formación de percusionistas con un repertorio de ritmos procedentes de todo el mundo (latino, brasileño, flamenco, africano, hip-hop, oriental), acompañados por el baile de los andadores de zancos, se presenta en mitad de las multitudes para apoderarse de las calles y ofrecernos contacto directo. La Banda del Surdo crea una fiesta de música de percusión que invita a bailar con los oídos, escuchar con los ojos y absorber con los pies. Los percusionistas y bailarines llevan a las calles un show repleto de energía y color. La música se contagia cuerpo a cuerpo, ritmos de todas partes del mundo, pasión, movimiento, diversión...¡y montones de calor! La Banda del Surdo ha participado en los principales festivales de música y teatro callejero de toda Europa. También colabora frecuentemente con producciones de otras compañías de renombre, como el Circo del Sol, Comediants y Studio Festi. Crazy drums’ street performances in Dún Laoghaire!
La Banda del Surdo presents Percussionante! a street show which uses percussion and rhythm as its principal focus. A numerous formation of percussionists with a repertory of rhythms from around the world (Latin, Brazilian, Flamenco, African, Hip-Hop, Oriental,...), accompanied by the dancing of stilt walkers, appears in the middle of crowds to reclaim the streets and give us direct contact. La Banda del Surdo creates a party out of percussion music which you dance to with your ears, listen to with your eyes and absorb with your feet. Percussionists and dancers take to the street with a show that is loaded with energy and colour. Music permeates from body to body, rhythms from all around the world, passion, movement, good times… and loads of heat! La Banda del Surdo has participated with great success in the principal festivals of music and street theatre in Catalonia and Spain, and it has international experience with performances all over Europe. It is also frequently collaborating in productions with other companies, among which Cirque du Soleil, Comediants and Studio Festi are of renown. This is their first time performing in Ireland. Don’t miss their street performances during the dlr Festival of World Cultures in Dún Laoghaire!

Catorce kilómetros es la distancia que separa África de Europa, pero también es la barrera que separa los sueños de millones de africanos que ven en Occidente su única salida para escapar del hambre y de la miseria. De la mano de tres jóvenes africanos -Violeta, Buba y Mukela- recorreremos un largo y peligroso viaje a través del Sahara para conocer lo que nunca enseñan los medios de comunicación. Las repetidas imágenes en televisión de cayucos llegando a las costas de Canarias han acabado por insensibilizarnos ante un drama que solo muestra la punta del iceberg. Esas imágenes de rostros exhaustos dan buena fe de la dureza del viaje, un viaje que tiene su origen a miles de kilómetros de distancia y que puede durar años. Y esto es lo que pretende "14 kilómetros". Esta película quiere ser un homenaje a los que triunfaron y a los que fracasaron, a los que viven y a los que murieron en el empeño. Para todos ellos nuestra admiración y respeto. |
Fourteen kilometres is not only the distance separating Africa from Europe, it is also the boundary separating the dreams of millions of Africans who see the West as their only escape route from hunger and misery. Along with three young Africans – Violeta, Buba and Mukela- we make a long, dangerous journey through the Sahara to find out about things the media never show us. We have seen the television pictures of boats arriving on the Canary Island coast so often that we have grown hardened to a drama that is only the tip of the iceberg. These pictures of exhausted faces are ample proof of the gruelling journey that begins thousands of kilometres away and may last for years.

'HomoBaby Boom' cuenta las historias de seis familias homoparentales de Catalunya y Valencia explican cómo
 tuvieron a sus hijos e hijas, qué reacciones han encontrado y cómo les han afectado los cambios legales de 2005, que permiten el matrimonio y la adopción por parte de parejas homosexuales.
''Q. Spawn", premiado en festivales internacionales, muestra la vida y pensamientos de diversos adolescentes de Estados Unidos que tienen madres lesbianas o padres gays. Q. Spawn ha recibido una decena de premios, ha participado en unos 40 festivales en todo el mundo y se ha emitido en diversas televisiones.
Las proyecciones serán seguidas de un coloquio con la directora de los cortometrajes, Anna Boluda.
Spain leaglised same-sex marriage and adoption in 2005, becoming one of the few countries with equal rights for homosexuals. Since then, the live of the families with gay or lesbian parents has certainly improved. Witness their joys and challenges as six of these families tell their stories. 'Homo Baby Boom' gives voice to the members of two-mom or two-dad families. They had never had any kind of legal protection, and now they have the same rights as any other family. But they do not always enjoy social acceptance. What do other people think about them? And how is it at the kids' schools? How did their own families react? What do the teenager or young adult children of these families think?
Award-winning documentary 'Q.Spawn' shows the life and thoughts of several teenagers in the United States who have gay or lesbian parents. Q. Spawn has received several international awards, has been part of over 40 festival all over the world and has been programmed on several TV channels.
The screening of the short films will be followed by a conversation with film-maker Anna Boluda on LGBT parenting.

El multilingualismo en la España contemporánea se está transformando debido a la creciente mobilidad de las fronteras nacionales de la gente que interactúa por motivos de trabajo y en su tiempo libre. Melissa Moyer, profesora asociada de Lingüística Inglesa de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, ofrecerá una mirada al multilingüalismo en varios contextos en Cataluña, que incluyen compañías privadas conectadas al sector de la telecomunicación que seleccionan clientes migratorios transnacionales, mediadores culturales en una clínica sanitaria pública y una oficina local de una ONG internacional. La investigación de Melissa Moyer se centra en el intercambio de códigos español-inglés, la pragmática y las aproximaciones interaccionales al bilingüalismo y el corpus del lenguaje bilingüe.|
Multilingualism in contemporary Spain is being shaped by the increased mobility across national boundaries of people who have come into contact for purposes of work and leisure. Melissa Moyer, Associate Professor of English Linguistics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, will look at multilingualism in various contexts in Catalonia which include private companies connected to the telecommunication sector that target transnational migrant clients, cultural mediators at a public health clinic, and a local chapter of an international NGO. Melissa G. Moyer's research covers Spanish-English code-switching, pragmatic and interactional approaches to bilingualism, and bilingual language corpora.
