Here and Now. Documentary Photography in Contemporary Spain
 "Aquí y Ahora" es una muestra de fotografía organizada conjuntamente por el Instituto Cervantes y la Agencia Española Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID). Esta exposición está formada por trece aproximaciones personales a los tópicos, antiguos y nuevos, que definen la España contemporánea: inmigración, toros, turismo, agua, territorio, gente, vivienda, bodas, memoria familiar, terrorismo, motos, religión y bares. Este proyecto es una iniciativa de Nophoto, colectivo de fotografía contemporánea nacido en 2005 con el objetivo de hacer viables proyectos individuales y colectivos no convencionales. Los trabajos de Nophoto ofrecen una experimentada mirada sobre lo cotidiano que siempre conduce a lo extraordinario. La exposición ha revisitado la España contemporánea, ha llegado a ese lugar íntimo para recorrerlo, habitarlo, caminarlo y poblarlo. Fotógrafos que han preferido no ser turistas, ni intrépidos reporteros, ni irónicos; no buscaron la noticia, tampoco la verdad. Si acaso, la honestidad. Trece proyectos que matan los tópicos acercándose a ellos y que saquean los arquetipos usando algo tan sencillo como la primera persona. |
Aquí y Ahora (Here and Now) is a photography exhibition jointly organised by the Instituto Cervantes and the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo AECID (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development). This exhibition comprises thirteen personal representations of themes, both old and new, that define contemporary Spain: immigration, bulls, tourism, water, land, people, housing, marriage, family memory, terrorism, motorbikes, religion and bars. This project is an initiative of Nophoto, a contemporary, non-conventional, photographers' collective. The works of Nophoto offer an experimental insight into everyday life that always leads to the extraordinary. The exhibition revisits contemporary Spain, reaching into this intimate place to traverse it, inhabit it, walk through it and settle it. Photographers who have preferred not to be tourists, or intrepid reporters, who are not seeking a newsworthy event or even truth. At most, they search for honesty. Thirteen projects that kill off the clichés surrounding them and take archetypes by storm using something as simple as the first person.

El conjunto consta de bailaores, cantantes y guitarristas extraordinarios que presentan una noche catártica de actuación apasionada a través de series de viñetas. The award-winning Noche Flamenca is renowned for its authentic
 and gritty performance of flamenco. The much-celebrated and unparalleled Soledad Barrio is known as "the Baryshnikov of flamenco" and has received eleven "best dancer" awards from as many countries. The ensemble is comprised of extraordinary dancers, singers, and guitarists who present a cathartic evening of passionate performance in a series of vignettes. "'Crowd pleaser' can be a dirty term for critics, but not in the case of Soledad Barrio, the fierce, earthly star of Noche Flamenca, who doesn´t sacrifice artistry on the altar of spectacle. La mejor escritura de las excelentes poetas de la Galicia contemporánea está recogida en To the Winds Our Sails. Co-editada por la poeta irlandesa Mary O´Donnell y la académica gallega Manuela Palacios, esta antología ofrece una mirada única a las obsesiones imaginarias, sociales, ecológicas y personales en las cuales las poetas gallegas se han centrado en las últimas décadas. Diez poetas con un variado rango en edad, experiencia y estilo están representadas, con cinco traducciones cada una. Cada escritora gallega ha seleccionado un poema para ser traducido al irlandés. Esta iniciativa pretende unir las preocupaciones lingüísticas y culturales que Irlanda y Galicia han compartido históricamente. Los poetas irlandeses seleccionados son Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Dr Maurice Harmon, Paddy Bushe, Caitríona O´Reilly y Catherine Phil MacCarthy y entre las escritoras gallegas encontramos a Luz Pozo Garza, Xohana Torres, Chus Pato, Marilar Aleixandre, Ana Romaní y María do Cebreiro. La antología será presentada por Michael Cronin, Director del centro de traducción, Dublin City University, y Mary O'Donnell, poeta y novelista. Tras la presentación de la antología, se procederá a la lectura de poemas por parte de las poetas gallegas Chus Pato y Marilar Aleixandre y de escritoras irlandesas. La velada contará además con interpretación de música gallega en directo por Eimear Dempsey. |
The best writing from Galicia’s outstanding contemporary women poets awaits the reader of To the Winds Our Sails. Co-edited by Irish poet Mary O’Donnell and Galician scholar Manuela Palacios, this anthology offers a unique insight into the imaginative, social, ecological and personal preoccupations with which Galician poets have engaged in recent decades. Ten poets ranging in age, experience and style, are represented with five translations each. An interesting feature of this anthology is that each Galician writer has selected one poem to be rendered in the Irish language. This approach attempts to represent the cultural and linguistic concerns which Ireland and Galicia have shared historically. Irish poets feature Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Dr. Maurice Harmon, Paddy Bushe, Caitríona O’Reilly and Catherine Phil MacCarthy, while among Galician writers we find Luz Pozo Garza, Xohana Torres, Chus Pato, Marilar Aleixandre, Ana Romaní, and María do Cebreiro. The book will be launched by Michael Cronin, Director of the Centre for Translation and Textual Studies, Dublin City University, and Mary O'Donnell, poet, short-story writer, novelist and co-editor of the anthology. After the official launch of the anthology there will be readings of poems by Galician poets Chus Pato, Marilar Aleixandre and by Irish writers Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill, Catherine Phil MacCarthy, Maurice Harmon and Caitriona O'Reilly. During the evening there will be a break on the proceedings for a live performance of Galician music by local artist Eimear Dempsey.

El Instituto Cervantes y la Embajada de Argentina en Dublín se unen en la organización del primer ciclo de cine argentino, en el que se expondrá una variada representación de la creación fílmica contemporánea del país austral. Se han seleccionado cuatro películas que sirven de muestra de la diversidad del cine argentino y el mosaico de culturas y realidades sociales que conviven en la Argentina de hoy.|
Instituto Cervantes Dublin and the Argentinean Embassy in Dublin have joined together to organize the first cycle of Argentinean cinema, in which they will show a varied selection of contemporary films from this South American country. Four films have been selected which serve to demonstrate the diversity of Argentinean cinema and the mosaic of cultures and social realities that co-exist in the Argentina of today.

The Learning Lab Identities and Social Justice abre un debate centrado en el tema de las identidades junto con el concepto de justicia social. Learning Lab está diseñado como el espacio en el que una comunidad de aprendices resurge a través del tiempo y donde el proceso de aprendizaje se conforma a través de diferentes actores sociales. Su objetivo es construir una comunidad de aprendizaje en un período significativo de tiempo y facilitar el desarrollo de un foro de diálogo abierto, además de sesiones de laboratorio cara a cara. |
The Learning Lab Identities and Social Justice opens a cross-sectoral learning environment for a focused discussion on the theme of identities aligned with the concept of social justice. Learning Lab is designed as a space in which a community of learners emerges over time; where the learning process is shaped by diverse social actors. Its aim is to build a learning community over a sustained period of time and to facilitate development of an online discussion forum, in addition to face-to-face lab sessions.

The year 1810 marked the beginning of the revolutionary processes which culminated in the independence of the Spanish colonies in America. Two hundred years later, our library is joining in with the commemorations with a bibliographic exhibition devoted to the birth of the Hispano-American countries. |

La ilustradora Elena Odriozola (San Sebastián, 1967) ofrece una charla con motivo de la Conferencia de Children's Books Ireland 2010, titulada Alimentar
la semilla: perspectivas y posibilidades en los libros infantiles. Elena Odriozola estudió arte y decoración y trabajó en agencias de publicidad como maquetadora y directora artística antes de dedicarse a la ilustración. Ahora cuenta con más de 50 libros ilustrados y con un estilo definido por la sutileza, la capacidad para dar sentido a los blancos en la composición de sus creaciones y un lirismo que aflora en sus dibujos. En el 2006 el Ministerio de Cultura de España le concedió el Segundo Premio a las mejores ilustraciones creadas para el libro La princesa que bostezaba a todas horas.|
