General information

Instituto Cervantes in Dublin is located in the heart of Ireland’s capital city. It is conveniently situated between Trinity College and the National Gallery. Studying Spanish in our institute not only means learning the language but enjoying the opportunity of getting to know and discovering the different cultures within the Hispanic world. Each week our students will have the chance to participate in some of our cultural activities.

Students will also have access to our library, which offers a wide selection of Spanish and Latin American literature, as well as movies, music, magazines and newspapers from the Spanish-speaking world.

Study Plan

Instituto Cervantes offers comprehensive Spanish language courses aimed at developing the students’ ability to understand, speak, read and write in Spanish.

Instituto Cervantes is proud to announce that, as of September 2008 and, following the recommendations of the Council of Europe, a new curriculum will be effective in our academic programme.

The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications, thus facilitating educational and occupational mobility.

The Common European Framework divides learners into three broad divisions which can be divided into six levels:

A Basic User

A1 Breakthrough

A2 Waystage

B Independent User

B1 Threshold

B2 Vantage

C Proficient User

C1 Proficiency

C2 Mastery

At the end of each course, students sit an exam in order to obtain the corresponding certificate and proceed to the next course. Certificates issued are valid worldwide.

Communication is the objective of the class, so students will be encouraged to use the language actively from day one, and also to interact with other students. Grammar will be used as a tool to reinforce the students’ language skills, so during the class there will be time for both fluency and accuracy practice.

Instituto Cervantes has its own study plan – the Curricular Plan - that establishes a suitable basis from which to teach a cultured, universal Spanish whilst respecting the different varieties of Spanish within the Spanish-speaking community. The teaching methods are flexible and are supported by the most advanced technology the Instituto is currently immersed in a process of adaptation of our courses on the new levels established in “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”.

Certificate

At the end of each course, our teachers assess the student’s progress and give individual feedback; our students can also get a Certificate which shows the level they have reached. A Certificate of Attendance can also be obtained at the end of each 30 hour course. All Certificates have to be requested individually at the Administration office.
At Instituto Cervantes you can also register for the DELE exam (Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language) issued by Spain’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport , either as an external or an internal candidate. We encourage our students to take part in the DELE, which take place twice a year, in May and November.
