Instituto Cervantes is proud to announce that, as of September 2008 and, following the recommendations of the Council of Europe, a new curriculum will be effective in our academic programme.
The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications, thus facilitating educational and occupational mobility.
The Common European Framework divides learners into three broad divisions which can be divided into six levels:
A. Basic User
A1 Breakthrough
A2
Waystage
B. Independent User
B1
Threshold
B2
Vantage
C. Proficient User
C1
Proficiency
C2
Mastery
At the end of each level, students sit an exam in order to obtain the corresponding certificate and proceed to the next course level. Certificates issued are valid worldwide.
Communication is the objective of the class, so students will be encouraged to use the language actively from day one, and also to interact with other students. Grammar will be used as a tool to reinforce the students’ language skills, so during the class there will be time for both fluency and accuracy practice.
Instituto Cervantes has its own study plan – the Curricular Plan - that establishes a suitable basis from which to teach a cultured, universal Spanish whilst respecting the different varieties of Spanish within the Spanish-speaking community. The teaching methods are flexible and are supported by the most advanced technology the Instituto is currently immersed in a process of adaptation of our courses on the new levels established in “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”.
The teaching staff is specialised in the most up-to-date techniques for teaching Spanish as a foreign language and all our teachers receive training and improvement courses every year as the result of our desire to offer a quality service to our students.
