The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) describes what a learner is supposed to be able to do in reading, listening, speaking and writing at each level. These descriptors can apply to any of the languages spoken in Europe.

Level B1 Threshold

To enter level B1 you need to be a returning student or pass an assessment test.

Students in this level can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
