Lending service

Lending service
  • The user must have a library membership card.
  • Membership of the library is by payment of an annual or quarterly subscription fee by cheque, cash or credit card.
  • Discounts are available for students and the unemployed.
  • Students of the Instituto Cervantes can join the library FREE OF CHARGE.
  • Pensioners may join the library free of charge.
  • In order to qualify for a discount, you must provide valid documentation proving your entitlement.
  • Proof of address is also required.
  • Schools, Universities, Libraries and other organisations can join as institutional members.

Library card fees

  • General public: 30€ (or 20€ for six months).
  • Full-time students, and unemployed: 20€ (or 15€ for six months).
  • Family membership: 40€ (2 adults + 1 child, other children free).
  • Institutional membership: 60€ (the application must be accompanied by a letter with the institution/company’s stamp, the name of the person responsible for the membership, and the names of those to whom the membership applies).
  • Membership by post: a yearly fee of 25€ will be added to the corresponding tariff to cover postage costs. nstitutions: 60€

Lending conditions

General

  • Books, magazines and CDs: a maximum of 7 items for 3 weeks. 
  • Videos and DVDs: a maximum of 3 items for 3 weeks (not renewable).

Family members

  • Books, magazines and CDs: a maximum of 14 items for 3 weeks. 
  • Videos and DVDs: a maximum of 6 items for 3 weeks (not renewable). 

Institutional members

  • Books, magazines and CDs: a maximum of 21 items for 6 weeks. 
  • Videos and DVDs: a maximum of 9 items for 6 weeks (not renewable). 

Renewals and reservations

  • Loans of books and magazines may be renewed once for the same period of time as the first loan, as long as the item in question has not been reserved by another user.
  • Audiovisual materials may not be renewed.
  • Renewals and reservations may be carried out in the library, through the library’s OPAC online, by e-mail bibdub1(at)cervantes.es, or by telephone 01-631-1515.
  • Reservations are accepted only for items which are already on loan to other members.
  • The maximum number of items that may be reserved is three.
  • Reservations can be made in person or online.
  • The library will contact the member when the item they have reserved becomes available.

Penalties

  • Fines exist only when returning books over 7 days late.
  • Books and magazines: 10c per day
  • Audiovisual items: 10c per day up to 14 days; 15c per day after 14 days
  • Items that are 25 days overdue will result in a temporary suspension of your loan card.
  • Loss or deterioration of documents will imply a reimbursement of the damage caused or a payment of the amount set by the library.

Postal loans

  • Postal loans are restricted to users who are resident in Ireland, but live outside Dublin, and require the user to be in possession of a loan card.
  • Those interested in postal loans must pay an annual fee of 25 € to cover postage costs.
  • Items must be requested in writing by e-mail.
  • Members must agree to return the loaned materials through certified mail and to cover the return postage costs.
  • The loss of materials in return post will always be the responsibility of the member who sends them.
  • Those interested in this service may request a loan card from the library by post or e-mail bibdub(at)cervantes.es
  • Lending conditions are the same as for those who come into the library in person, with 1 more week added to the return date
