"D-Generation. Subterranean experiences in Spanish non-fiction" invites you to explore the murky depths of the contemporary documentary in search of those pieces that cannot quite be labelled or categorised. An update on the most innovative and daring Spanish audiovisual formats, formats which have their origins in this renewed concept of the documentary and which bring us to the core of these fascinating new paths of creation.

The series will be inaugurated by one of its coordinators, Antonio Weinrichter and moderated by Esperanza Collado (director of a contemporary art and cinema publication “Spectrum”), on Wednesday 3rd September at 6.30pm in the Café Literario, Instituto Cervantes.

"D-generación. Experiencias subterráneas de la no ficción española" es una propuesta que bucea en las profundidades del documental contemporáneo para encontrar aquellas piezas de difícil acomodo y condición. Una puesta al día de las formas más innovadoras y atrevidas del audiovisual español, aquellas que partiendo de un renovado concepto del documental se adentran por nuevos y fascinantes caminos creativos.

El ciclo será inaugurado por uno de sus coordinadores, Antonio Weinrichter, y moderado por Esperanza Collado (directora de la publicación “Spectrum” sobre arte y cine experimental), el 3 de septiembre a las 18:30 en el Café Literario del Instituto Cervantes.

Gnomo 
Presentation by Ciaran Cosgrove and Daniel Kent.

"Gnomo" is a bilingual book of verse, written on Celtic themes, that attempts to combine the verbal with the visual. "Gnomo" is a first collaboration between Ciaran Cosgrove and the distinguished Mexican painter, Daniel Kent, whose maternal grandmother emigrated from the Aran Islands in the 1930s.

Ciaran Cosgrove is head of the Department of Hispanic Studies at Trinity College, Dublin. His specialist interests include contemporary Spanish-American poetry. Daniel Kent is a Mexican painter who has exhibited widely in Latin America and in the USA. His paintings and sculptures are deeply imbued with mythic themes and archetypes. The finely etched drawings of which there are some fifty in "Gnomo" have been commented upon by one of Mexico's leading art critics, Ana Sánchez Valero, when she writes that "su manejo del dibujo es magistral".

“Gnomo” es una publicación bilingüe en verso, sobre temas Celtas, que combina lo verbal con lo visual. “Gnomo” es fruto de la primera colaboración entre Ciaran Cosgrove y el distinguido pintor mejicano, Daniel Kent, cuya abuela materna emigró desde las Islas Aran en la década de 1930.

Ciaran Cosgrove es el jefe del Departamento de Estudios hispánicos en el Trinity College de Dublín. Entre sus especialidades e intereses incluye la poesía Hispano-Americana. Daniel Kent es un pintor mejicano que ha expuesto en Hispanoamérica y en EE.UU. Sus pinturas y esculturas están profundamente relacionadas con temas míticos y arquetipos. Los delicados dibujos a tinta, de los cuales hay unos cincuenta en “Gnomo” han sido reseñados por la reconocida crítica mejicana Ana Sánchez Valero, como "su manejo del dibujo es magistral".

POEMES VISUALS starts with an actor, the Poet; he brings on stage a suitcase full of foam rubber letters. He plays with the shapes, and the sounds which their shapes suggest. He discovers that the letters can create poetry without the need for words. With songs and a guitar he builds up a tender relationship with the letters. They come to life and create a world filled with characters, humour, movement and dramatic action where it is shown that letters are not only used on paper and in computers but to create a delicate world of overwhelming simplicity. Manipulated with rods on a table, they are transformed: The letter "I" becomes a boy who plays with the "E", a dog; a "Y" and a "U" together form a dancer, and a simple "T" is a trampoline artist. The show is inspired by the magic in Joan Brossa's visual poems.

POEMES VISUALS comienza con un actor, encarnando al Poeta. Éste lleva a escena una maleta repleta de letras de espuma y empieza a jugar con sus sonidos y formas, descubriendo que a partir de las letras puede crear poesía sin necesidad de construir palabras. Con la guitarra y las canciones empieza a establecer una tierna relación con las letras que toman vida y crean un universo lleno de personajes, coreografías, humor y acciones dramáticas, donde se demuestra que las letras no sólo sirven para rellenar papeles y ordenadores sino que también pueden crear un mundo sensible de sobrecogedora sencillez. Las letras, manipuladas con varillas sobre una mesa, adquieren vida propia y se van transformando a medida que avanza el espectáculo: La E se convierte en un perro que juega con un niño que es la I. Una Y con una U crean una bailarina rítmica y una simple T un trampolinista. El espectáculo está inspirado en la magia de los poemas visuales de Joan Brossa.
